These are the Falls of the Waits River. The falls are the gateway to downtown Bradford as you arrive from the south on US Rte 5. Our store is located on Bradford’s Main Street - a quarter of a block north of these falls - hence, our name.

The Falls have played an important role in Bradford's early growth. In the 1800's, town residents took advan-tage of the free power provided by the falls and built water driven mills.

These mills eventually went out of use, but the largest and most im-pressive of the Bradford mill build-ings still exists as a handsome multi-use commercial structure that greets you as you enter Bradford's downtown from the south. Boch Park at the foot of the falls is a popular site for taking pictures.

Today Central Vermont Public Service operates the Smith Hydro Station at the base of the falls, and the power generated goes into the state-wide grid.
